Twenty young journalists were involved in the Regional Reporting Project – from post-graduate students to those just entering their second year at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS).
We decided to document their travels in tweets. To see the rest… well, you’ll just have to follow @CentralNewsUTS on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
Some exciting news from #UTSJournalism
From today, we're sending student reporters to North, South, West & New England NSW, to see and hear how towns hit by drought, bushfires, dust storms & floods, are adapting to #climatechange. First stop Taree then Forster-Tuncurry. pic.twitter.com/jVi7i5WsYr— UTS Journalism (@CentralNewsUTS) January 28, 2020
Who better to brief #UTSJournalism students on the stories that matter to the Manning Valley, than long-time @MRTaree & @gladvocate editor Toni Bell. Thanks Toni!

It's a smokey but safe bus ride out of the #ACT on the way to #Bega. These pics were taken by #UTSJournalism students @LanieT96 & @hanh_yoon just a few minutes ago on Monaro Drive, after the turn-off to Cooma.

Even before the #bushfires, @BegaValleyShire was preparing for the economic & agricultural impact of #climatechange. Mayor @KristyMcBain has told #UTSJournalism students that the "Climate Change Resilience Strategy 2050", is currently before council. Pics: @bellagarrido_ pic.twitter.com/FdxahV6Mey

Luca (15), Anise & Harry (12) & Nelly (9) were part of #Bega's #schoolstrike4climate. Harry organised it.
The #bushfires in south-east NSW have reinforced their call for #climateaction

These are just two of the many women in the #NSWRFS battling #bushfires in the state's south-east this evening. They're part of the Gulmarrad & Pillar Valley crews who left from #Bega earlier this afternoon.

Narelle Griffin loves the #Bega Valley. This weekend, she's been helping #UTSJournalism students report on the impacts of #climatechange. Here Narelle chats to @essentialenergy workers restoring power to #Cobargo. Critical infrastructure is often lost in extreme weather events. pic.twitter.com/rrM1evmNP8

John “The Highway Man” Cadoret has been walking around Australia for 40 years. #UTSJournalism students stopped for a chat after spotting him just outside Dubbo. You can imagine the stories he had to tell about our changing #climate! @dailyliberal @lynn_rayner1 @UTSFass pic.twitter.com/fepN1kyDuH

Day 9 of #UTSJournalism’s Regional Reporting Project & our students have just met Narromine farmer, Ben Sippel. Ben reckons saltbush has #drought-proofed the farm & makes for leaner & tastier #lamb.

One of our priorities in sending #UTSJournalism students across NSW to cover #ClimateChange was for them to see the beauty & harshness of our land from a train. Today, 5 are bound for Tamworth on @TrainLinkNorth as 6 farewell the lovely folk of Dubbo on @TrainLinkWest @utsfass ? pic.twitter.com/zKsVGYPe0a

“I know it's very difficult to convey… but things aren’t black and white, things are complex." That's from Alice Milson – one of the 50+ #climatechange protestors currently outside @Barnaby_Joyce's Tamworth office. Pic by #UTSJournalism's @BoenSidney for @the_NDL @UTSFass pic.twitter.com/b5ua4r0XuS

“Everyone doesn’t notice it’s a problem [#climatechange] until it’s affecting them.” From one of the switched-on @Calrossy students who've welcomed #UTSJournalism to their #Tamworth campus today. "What we need is the govt & the opposition to agree on a policy that goes forward. To be divided on the #climatechange issue with all the knowledge we have now is quite absurd." Former Indep. MP @TonyHWindsor speaking to #UTSJournalism students in Werris Creek today. @UTSFass pic.twitter.com/fzmvSfMusC

Ray Bryant (C) has been showing #UTSJournalism students around as they cover #climatechange in the New England. He’s full of stories. Like how Nundle’s The Peel Inn was won in a card game & has stayed in the same family for four generations. Thanks Ray! ? pic.twitter.com/fy4Icf5A1I

While this video by @BoenSidney shows dams filling in the New England, it’s important to remember that intense #rain is symptomatic of a warmer atmosphere. It supports the theory of #climatechange, not disproves it. Source (among many): the #UN’s @IPCC_CH pic.twitter.com/8TPmrOVORn
